Hugs are necessary for live

Wiliam Sears

American pediatrician author and co-author of parenting books. He is also the father of „attachment parenting” philosophy that was published in 1982 in his Creative Parenting book.

Benjamin Spock

But roots of this love oriented parenting philosophy came up much earlier. It was started by handbook Baby and Child Care (one of best selling books in history) written by Benjamin Spock .

Attachment parenting

This is a method of raising children not only by empathy but by bodily closeness and touch. Simplest body closeness are just hugs.

Virginia Satir

American author and therapist, widely regarded as the “Mother of Family Therapy” used to say:

We need 4 hugs a day for survival.
We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance.
We need 12 hugs a day for growth.

24hugs total.

24 comes from all day long which looks obvious, but this number also means the exact number of hugs that human being (especially the small one) needs.

Simplest way to hug baby to take in your arms. But it is much easier to tie baby in a sling or put it in baby carrier. You not only hug them but you have both hands free 🙂
